With the darker nights drawing in, it’s all too easy to hide away at home, treat yourself with comfort foods and forget about your health until the New Year. But with term time back in full swing, there’s never been a better time to ensure you and your family are fit and active.

Dancing is one of the most enjoyable ways to get fit, learn skills and meet new people – and what’s more, it’s perfect for everyone of every age. “Ballet, tap and jazz are three of the best dance forms around,” says Katherine Richardson, the young and enthusiastic principal of The Village School of Dance, set up in Wimbledon Village back in January. “There’s no better way for girls and boys of all ages to learn about their bodies, discover dance and make friends, whether they’re serious about being a professional or just fancy some fun.”

Katherine trained at the Royal Academy of at Dance and offers a refreshing selection of classes for children and adults alike. So whether you’re toddler is mesmerized by Angelina Ballerina, your teen wants to perfect some steps before they sign up for X Factor or you fancy trying your hand at a quirky adult tap class (which burns around 400 calories, even if you’re a beginner), you can find it all here. It’s been a whirlwind year for the school so far and, due to popular demand, there are already plans for more classes, examinations and performances.

So next time you or the kids are lacking a little energy, sign up for a dance class – you’ll be amazed the difference it makes. Ballet, tap and jazz classes are held Wednesday-Saturday in Wimbledon Village and the surrounding areas.
