Festivals & competitions
A pathway for dedicated performers
Festivals are competitions where students compete with children from other dance schools. Categories are divided by age and subject, and by solo or duet. All children are awarded a certificate, with medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
Students who gain a high enough mark at a qualifying festival can enter the regional heat of the All England Dance Festival. The national final is held every two years in a West End theatre.
Solos, duets and trios are prepared in weekly private lessons, then performed at the festivals they have been entered for. We love seeing how much our students enjoy and learn from these stage experiences.
School shows
Bi-annual productions for every student
Since our first show in 2011, we have built a reputation for putting on spectacular productions with the glitz and glamour of a West End performance. Shows run every two years, each with its own distinctive theme.
We believe every student should experience the joy of dancing on stage, so we make it our mission to create joyful, inclusive shows that build confidence and wonderful memories.
Workshops
Industry professionals in the Village
Between industry contacts in the team, the school invites West End performers to lead workshops, often on a Sunday or in the holidays, usually including a Q&A. Past inspirations have ranged from musical theatre titles to classical repertoire.
What families say
The difference it makes
Parents on exams, shows and the pathway from first class to the stage.
“My daughter started dancing with Miss Katherine aged 4 and fast forward now to aged 17, she is still dancing and is delighted to be taking her RAD Grade 8 ballet this year. She has enjoyed many years of tap and modern too. And the biennial show always a highlight! The Village School of Dance is a fabulous local dance school, with a wonderful sense of community and friends made for life. Come and join the VSD family!”

“This is an excellent school and I would recommend it. My 12 yo daughter has been attending for the last 5 years or so. The ballet class my daughter is in has bonded into a really lovely little unit. They have done exams, and 2 ballet school shows together, AND even taken part in the Stars of Tomorrow performance at the Royal Wimbledon Theatre. They have not just learned to dance and perform with confidence, but also learned resilience and how to support each other too. Ballet body conditioning classes are also somehow made enjoyable! and other types of dance classes offered (eg, street dance) that I have seen are well attended too.”

“Wonderful dance school in Wimbledon. I love the fact it feels like a family and has a very nurturing community. Both my girls thoroughly enjoy their classes, taking their exams and being part of the bi-annual dance show. The show costumes are to die for, but more than that, everyone is celebrated and behind the scenes, all the age groups are mixing and helping one another. Hats off to Katherine and team.”
